USA eSIM FAQs
Everything clear before you connect
Which eSIM is right for me in the United States?
It depends on whether you need a U.S. phone number or just internet access.
Carrier prepaid eSIMs include T-Mobile, Verizon, MobileX, and Cricket. They include a +1 number, data, calls, and SMS, and can be topped up; starting at $929 MXN.
Data-only eSIMs include LibertyPass, CoastFlow, and Change (Airalo), ideal for your trip; starting at $28 MXN.
If you still have questions, Lia can help you choose.
Which one includes a local U.S. number?
Only carrier eSIMs (T-Mobile, Verizon, MobileX, and Cricket) give you a +1 number with calls and SMS.
LibertyPass and CoastFlow are data-only and don’t include a number. Some Change packages add minutes and SMS, but they aren’t a refillable carrier line.
Can I buy it and install it from Mexico?
Carrier eSIMs: No. They must be purchased, installed, and activated while you are in the United States, on the carrier’s native network.
Data-only eSIMs: Yes. You can install LibertyPass and CoastFlow up to 60 days before your trip, and Change up to 90 days before. Validity begins when you connect in the United States, not when you install the eSIM.
Can I use a U.S. eSIM in Mexico?
Carrier eSIMs are designed for use in the United States. Some plans include roaming in Mexico and Canada for short trips: T-Mobile’s $55 and $70 plans include 5 GB, and Verizon and Cricket include 2 GB per day at high speeds.
Regular use outside the United States may result in line suspension or IMEI blocking. If you’re going to live in Mexico or use your phone there, check out our eSIMs for Mexico.
LibertyPass and CoastFlow only have coverage in the United States.
What coverage and networks are included?
Carrier eSIMs connect to their native 5G networks: T-Mobile, Verizon, Cricket (AT&T network), and MobileX (Verizon network).
For data-only plans, LibertyPass uses T-Mobile and AT&T networks, while CoastFlow uses Verizon and AT&T. Check the coverage map and compatibility on each eSIM’s product page before purchasing.
Can I use a U.S. eSIM as a tourist or resident?
Yes. Carrier eSIMs are for residents, students, and visitors; data-only eSIMs are ideal for temporary stays.
You only need a device that supports eSIM. When you purchase, we’ll ask for your EID and IMEI (you can find them by dialing *#06#). If a carrier requires additional information, such as a ZIP code, we’ll let you know.
Can I continue using WhatsApp and my usual number?
Yes. You keep your primary SIM, and WhatsApp continues working with your usual number while you use the eSIM’s data.
You can also register WhatsApp with the +1 number using a carrier eSIM, since it can receive SMS. Some banks or apps may reject prepaid numbers.
How much does an eSIM for the United States cost?
Data-only plans cost from $28 MXN (LibertyPass), $30 MXN (CoastFlow), and $60 MXN (Change).
Carrier plans with a phone number: T-Mobile from $929 MXN, MobileX and Cricket $999 MXN, and Verizon $1,119 MXN. The carrier price already includes the first plan period.
